B2 drone reflection

texture testing materials in unreal:

Here we used pbr textures, which combine light, material and other properties. In the screen shot below you can see us practicing using group for each of the different nodes on a basic model.

The types of nodes are:

Albedo: this controls the base colour of the model.

Metallic: this effects how shiny or flat the model looks

Roughness: this changes shininess along side metallic and also can control how dull or flat the texture looks

I found this very confusing, but was confident once it was over. We followed a tutorial written on the DLC by our tutor.

Reflecting on our project:

What went well/what are you most proud of:

I am most proud of how my character designs came out, since I had never attempted a character digital piece before and it was very fun to learn shortcuts, patience and how different it is from traditional drawing. I was very proud of my first attempt at rendering clothes since I think it looked good and it really brought the personality I made for my character alive. It was fun to create and rewarding to see both of my character concepts come together and represent both sides of the character I made.

What could have gone better?:

I think that my drone texturing could have gone a lot better but I struggle to use the substance painter software, to find brushes that I can make work for what I’m envisioning. However I am still proud of how my drone turned out and am happy that I got it to look as close to my concept art as I did. If I had the opportunity I would of spent a lot more time slowly building up the texture to how I want it to look and taking my time testing brushes to use and different ways to create aspects of detail I wanted to be there.

What have you learned?:

Through out this project I have learnt rationing my work out over a set space of time since we only had six weeks to complete all physical work for our drone and characters. I learnt patience and being excited for projects helps how you view your work and how you can present your skill to the best of your ability. I learnt that work also needs to be done in your own time no matter how many hours we have in college since the extra hour you spend at home can really help your schedule when you do have access to the softwares at college. I learnt that asking my peers for help can be more beneficial since we are all at the same working ability and how others do something you might not be able to can really help it click for you too.

If you were to do this project again what would you change?:

I would change my drone texture. I was happy with how it turned out but not proud like I was with every other part of the project. I don’t think I spent enough time working on my texture and it let the idea I had and my execution down because it didn’t fully represent how I wanted my drone to look. I would have researched textures more and incorporated those aspects into my physical texturing work.

Compare your final concept to your final render.
